About
West End Voice was borne through collaboration between Fiona MacGregor, an Ear, Nose and Throat Consultant, and Carolyn Allen, a speech and language therapist. Working together in a clinic dedicated to professional voice users, they shared a determination to reduce the risk of problems in those reliant on their voices for their career, and so they created West End Voice in early 2019.
Although Fiona has now retired from clinical practice, Carolyn continues to provide a range of therapy services including vocal education, voice therapy with practical exercises and vocal massage. In 2022, Carolyn published a book "Navigating Voice Disorders: around the larynx in 50 tips," for students and newly qualified speech and language therapists.
Carolyn is registered with the major health insurance companies, including Aviva, AXA, BUPA and Vitality Health. In being registered with the British Association of Performing Arts Medicine (BAPAM) she is also an approved practitioner with Help Musicians UK and can provide information about possible sources of funding to support attendance at therapy.
She is additionally a stammering specialist and, in line with current research, sees it as a natural variation in communication rather than as a defect or disorder. Her person-centred approach considers the full picture of communication, including the emotional and life impact of any difficulties, and she will work with you to help you find vocal or communication freedom, whatever that looks like for you.
